7 Cures For A Lean Purse

A very famous book by George S Clason called The Richest Man in Babylon was released in 1926 and still sells thousands of copies each year, with good reason: the advice in the book stands the test of time.

The book describes 'seven cures for a lean purse' and it's worth having a look at these cures and how they might be applied to your own finances.

The First Cure
The first cure is to 'start thy purse to fattening'. The key message here is to save. The book says that for every 10 coins you earn, spend only nine. The same principle can be applied to your own finances - save one tenth of what you earn. If you start this discipline early in life and maintain it, you'll find your financial resources will grow considerably over time.

The Second Cure
The second cure is to 'control thy expenditures'. The book makes it clear we need to separate our needs from our wants and not waste money on our wants when this money would be better saved or invested. So don't waste money on flat screen TVs, take away coffees and gadgets. Instead, save this money and put it aside to help contribute to your long-term financial wealth.
The Third Cure
The third cure is to 'make thy gold multiply'. The idea here is to invest excess capital wisely, in investments that will return your capital plus interest so you earn an income stream on your money.

The Fourth Cure
The fourth cure is 'guard thy treasures from loss'. This means not risking your principle investment chasing high returns. It's better to invest conservatively and aim for modest returns that try to make a quick buck.

The Fifth Cure
The fifth cure is to 'make of thy dwelling a profitable investment.' So make sure your family home is in a good location and maintain it so when you want to sell it, you'll get a good price (the fact you don't have to pay capital gains tax on the family home in Australia makes it a particularly profitable investment in this country.)

The Sixth Cure
The sixth cure is to 'insure a future income'. This means putting enough money aside for retirement and also making provisions for your family in case you die or are incapacitated. So make voluntary contributions over and above the contributions your employer makes to your super fund. And ensure you have life insurance and, if possible, income protection insurance.
The Seventh Cure
The seventh cure is to 'increase thy ability to earn'. This means actually wanting to increase your income. But it's not enough to want to be rich - you have to have definite targets. For example, a date you want to have your home paid off by, or a particular amount of money you want to save each month.

These cures seem simple, but it takes practice and patience to make them a real part of your life. If you do have the discipline to follow these cures, you'll find you will increase your nest egg significantly over time.

Don't Quit!

Interestingly, after drinking the prune's extract, I kept on lau-sai for 3 times already. The 3rd time is in my house. I found a book that I had for long time. Inside, there is a bookmark of my ex-bf.

It's from his ex-gf, who was before me, Pang Cui Ling to Teh Kien Leng.
Found their similarity, their hand writing also not nice :P hehe

anyway, the main thing I wanna blog is about the bookmark. It's "Don't quit".

DON'T QUIT!
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
when the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
when the funds are low, and the debts are high,
and you want to smile but you have so sigh,
when care is pressing you down a bit,
rest if you must,
but don't you quit.

Life is strange with its twists and turns,
as everyone of us sometimes learns,
and many a failure turns about,
when he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
you may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out,
the silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
and you never can tell how close you are,
it may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
it's when things seem worse,
that you must not quit.

I realised that I am really someone who did not have the observation skill. With or without the bookmark, I didn't realise my bf (that time) is someone give up easily, and quit easily. I am terribly sorry.

He is someone who quit very easy, and never turn back to the things happened before, and he seldom mention about his past. He is someone that does not have history. His current friends' circle do not know his history either.

I am an easy person, if he does not willing to tell, I won't force, I won't ask. If he wanted to tell, he would tell me without I asking.

Same thing go with the current bf. I do not know much about his past. What he doesn't tell, I won't ask. But I will observe his current, hope that history and experience are not relevant to him. I do not know whether this is right or not, I just want to keep the privacy room for him. I really hope he appreciates that, and I would not need to step back the history step to face that "your man is having affair with another girl" cruel fact.

I do not tell my history much either, as he seems like not interested to know. Past seems like not important. Well, I think so, as I changed so much to keep myself stepping on the earth, and overcome problems by myself with family and friends support.

To be frank, I do not know what should and what should not share in a relationship. I do not know how to keep relationship like friendship like the book said. But I will try my best to do it. I hope that should be the way for couple.

Under Water Activities...

Have you ever pee in the water? Such as...in the swimming pool, or in the sea?
I do not mean the water that you use at bath tub. I believe you would not pee at where you are "soaking yourself" in it.

As from young, when we go swimming, mom and dad always told us to pee in the pool whenever we told them we want to go toilet. At first it is difficult to pee, really. May be because of the under water pressure. But after some time you practice, you found it easy. However, you need to control the colour of the water, and control the facial expression that not too excited when letting it out.

And from pool to sea, it is a bit difficult, perhaps because of the salty level of the water, and perhaps there could be some under water current? It really takes some time to let it out.

Have you ever seen some bubbles in the water? It is not fishes in the pool!!! It's someone fart in the pool!!!!! Observe it next time. When someone stand away from the group of peoples, and s/he doesn't move, it is either s/he is pee-ing or farting. Let me know I am not alone! (though I knew I am not alone since young too, many parents saying it loud to the kids, and during their practice, the kids look so "mou gu".

The Traditional Teoh Chew Restaurant, Goh Huat Seng Restaurant, Penang

When I was young, grandpa always order Goh Huat Seng steamboat delivery to home during Chinese New Year. Grandpa loved the braised ducks, and the 干炸 (gan zha) from the restaurant. It really taste good. Whenever I miss Teoh Chew food, I miss this restaurant.

After so many years, finally we are back to this restaurant after grandma funeral last 2 weeks.

It's located at the second shop of Lebuh Kimberley.

Here it is :) GOH HUAT SENG!!!

Their list of menu...

This is the braised duck that I mentioned.
This is fried vege, the special here is, they are using the crispy fish to fry, but it is not Ikan Bilis.
he he this is 干炸 (gan zha).....there is crab and prawn flavours.
This is Teoh Chew Tofu, where you can't get everywhere. You dip it into the sauce below, which taste like salty water to cool the tofu.
Teoh Chew like 紫菜 soup, with Teoh Chew fishball. The fish balls are so springy!!
This is another traditional cabbage. Usually Teoh Chew likes to braised the vegetable like cabbage to soften it like this.
ha....this is the most expensive dish. 海滲, I don't know what is it called in English.
It is 海滲 stuffed mince pork.

I always said I am really happy to have my meal at this restaurant, where I really really meant it. It really brings me a lot of memories.

Coco's Update!

Coco is a growing up baby. She is so pampered by my family members, just like a little princess.
See how sweet she is? She accompanies mom everyday on this resting chair to watch movies, and play with mom or looking at mom eating snacks :P

This is her new toy, where mom place it on the top of fridge. And before she getting it, she looked at the toy everyday whenever she entered to mom's room. Hinting eh... mom finally gave it to her.
She always loves to bring the toys to you whenever see you. She wants to play with you.
Every morning, she woke dad and mom up with the toy too :P
She is so lovely .......but looks slimmer coz loosing some hairs these days.
Can feel how naughty she is?
Recently, Coco loves to go out so much. Whenever we open door, she will run out to the house's compound. If she sees the car's door is opened, she will just jump up to the passenger seats. There is once, when I was sitting at driver seats, and clearing rubbish in car, she saw non of the other car door is opened, except mine. She ran from the usual door that she goes up, to my door, then jumped on my laps and walked to the passenger seat, and then looked at me like smiling.

If she were at the compound, she doesn't want to return all of the time, until we close the door, she will then open the door by herself and come in later.

She usually runs out to the compound to chase the cats outside. She always win most of the case, except the cat in the picture. She is very fierce. She spit on Coco when Coco gets near to her. This cat is very pitiful, she has three legs only. But she is pretty and daring.

Oh...and 2 days ago, I brought Coco to shop for her food, and for her medicure and pedicure. The shoppers there treated her like a star, those guys with DSLR kept shooting her photos. And they also asked the shop people, whether Coco is on sale. I said, she is mine :)

The Creation of Numbers

The numeric numbers that we write are called Arabic algorithms (such as 1,2,3,4,etc).
Have you ever asked the question, why 1 is "one", 2 is "two" and 3 is "three".....?

What is the logic that exist in the Arabic algorithms?
I found the answer from Mike's forwarded email :P

There are actually made up from the ANGLES!!! How?
Look at these algorithms written in their primitive form and check it out!

And the amazing thing is, "Zero" has no angle!!!

Slumdog Millionaire

I went movie with my honey yesterday. I like the movie so much...
It's an Indian movie that everyone discuss about, Slumdog Millionaire.
You can see a lot of Indian's culture. I am not sure whether they are still in practice, but I like to see some of the scene that we can never seen in our life. As I would not plan for a trip to places like that.

Of course the stories are interesting. You can see how strong is the two kids' surviving skill, that's amazing!

Here is the trailer, if you have a chance, watch it!

Lessons in Logic

It's been a while I don't blog, as too many things happened.
Right after busy with company's annual dinner, my grandma passed away on the next day, which is last Monday 9/3/09, at 12.45pm.

Well that's life. Within these two months, we lost two grandmas.

Anyway, my dad forwarded me an email, which I think quite true, and here I share it.

Lessons in Logic

If your father is a poor man,
it is your fate but,
if your father-in-law is a poor man,
it's your stupidity.

Cough Cough

hm....Thought cough medicine can ease me to sleep, hell...the cough is killing me.
When I could almost sleep in the sleepless night, the cough woke me up again.

I was really angry with it. So I overdose a bit to make myself sleep well.
It works!

But...I felt very weak today, like 15 yrs older.
A bit regret ha......

Sleepless night

1 little 2 little 3 little Indian
4 little 5 little 6 little Indian
7 little 8 little 9 little Indian
10 little Indian Boy....

I was counting thousand of Indian Boy in my head, but yet I still cannot sleep.
The number of Indian Boy is too messy.
They stand all over around....

Ehhmm.....please queue straight! My mind is blank now.
I have been simple, and single minded all this while to make things go better, and thought of to pass through a new stage of life. I was trying to adjust my lifestyle.

But suddenly, old memory flash back to me due to some unpleasant thing happened tonight.
I lost my confidence, I lost more than confidence. Even it is a small matter, but it is really hurt.

Farn Farn was true at some point. He always told me assume is Ass between U and Me. If you look at the spelling of assume, it is. Well, what can be more than that?

Uncle

If one day, you were told to imagine uncle's image, how is an uncle look like?
Is that possible that the uncle has breast?
Is that possible that uncle has long hair?

These days uncles' look change.
Uncles can really have breast, long hair, and identical like women.
Surprised!!!!
