Funny Taxi Drivers' Stories

Since Sam has became a taxi driver I always heard some funny incidents that he has experienced within the cab. Despite that once his passangers ran away without paying the fare he seems to be really enjoy his work as a taxi driver.

There are 2 incidents that impressed me that I would like to share with you guys. In Australia taxi drivers are protected at all times during the shift as camera has been installed in the taxi. The base (is a call centre or you can also call it as assistant help centre for taxi drivers that is 24 hours available) is able to see the live image inside the taxi when the taxi has contacted the base.

Common reasons when taxi drivers need to contact the base is when they need help for the direction, estimated fare if its a long journey and customer wants to know how much would that be, the fare is over $100 and customer is using credit card, and when the taxi drivers are in danger and pressed the button for help. As soon as the base been contacted, the operator from the base is able to see everything from the camera and able to speak to the driver as well as the passenger. I think this is really cool !!!

First story from Sam's friend - Hamid who is a damn funny guy and very close friend of Sam. They went to the same college for the taxi course and started work together about the same time and renting the taxi from the same owner. One night on the weekend, as you know weekend night especially Friday and Saturday nights are the most busiest time among the week. Drivers like to work during these two nights because alot of money at the same time it is dangerous because they are gonna be alot of drunkens in your taxi cab. They may not able to tell you where they are heading to, they may not able to show you the route, they may just sleep all the way, they may be crazy in your cab, they may vomit in your taxi cab and by law taxi driver can charge them more for the mess done, and also they may strip off their clothes in the taxi.

So what happen to Hamid that night? 2 guys came into his taxi and told him where are they heading to. Hamid could tell that these 2 guys are tipsy and being crazy. The next thing he know his head was covered by an undies from one of the guy. The guy took off all his clothes and undies as well. Hamid stopped the taxi immediately and asked him to stop and get out from the car but he refused. So Hamid pressed the button to contact the base. It was a lady operator communicated with him. He told her whats happen and she could see it from the security camera also so she guided him how to solve the problem but at the same time the operator couldn't help herself but laughing also. Hamid was pretty angry though the guy was settled and continued the journey. To comfort himself he straight went to McDonalds and get himself couple of burgers because food is something that calm him down.

I love this incident of Hamid because I could imagine how funny would that be. A taxi driver covered by an undies from his passenger while driving.

Second incident from Sam - Lask week one night he took 3 guys to a suburb an dthey asked him to stop somewhere near to a park that is pretty dark. They all ran off without paying the fare. Sam tried to chase them to the park but an old man stopped him to say that better do not run them into the park it is dangerous. It is true. You wouldn't know whats inside there. It could be a gang gathering or something like that. So sam let them go despite is quite a big fare. Then he went back to city and picked up a passenger.

The passenger wants to go to Newcastle that is about 100km from city. He asked Sam how much would that be. So Sam contacted the base and asked. They were told approximately $300++. The passenger thought it is expensive and claimed that he had only $200. Sam thought it was a quiet night and he didn't make much that night so he took the offer. The operator from the base asked Sam if he saw the cash from the passenger. Sam said yes as the passenger was holding $200 cash in hand. Then the operator asked Sam to take the money first from the passenger before start the journey. So Sam just grabbed the money from the passenger's hand but the passenger moved his hand away. The operator saw it from the security camera but passenger didn't know that the operator could see him. So the operator said to the passenger "just give the money to the taxi driver !!". The passenger was shocked and asked Sam if she could see everything. Eventually he gave the money to Sam and started the long long journey home.

The passenger gave the address to Sam and Sam entered to his natvigator. The passenger also told Sam that please stop at McDonalds on the highway coz he wants to eat and he also said he will buy some for Sam. Sam noted but when reached a McDonalds the passenger already fell asleep. He slept all the way home. When reached the destination Sam woke him up and the passenger woke up in shock and said" what what you don't know the street??" Sam said to him" you are home". The passenger was happy but still very blur and before get off he said to Sam "your natvigator very very good, I will buy one next time !!".

Oh yeah I also just remember once Sam told me he took a prostitute from King Cross and she was stripping in Sam's taxi. Being a taxi driver you can really experience alot of things and get to know many different kind of people from different levels, and different background.
