Our tongue has the capability to taste salty, sweet, bitter, and sour. It's strange that when you see something sourish, you might feel your saliva is drooling from your mouth.
Chinese likes to describe taste as sweet, sour, bitter and spicy. This is not the taste from tongue. This is the taste of your life. Sweet life means easy lifestyle, sour life means with a bit of difficulties life, bitter life is life with higher level of difficulties, and spicy life means with a lot of excitement that could be good or bad.
Have you ever get taste of your own feeling?
My colleague told me that she broke up with her boyfriend yesterday. Her heart felt sourish. Feeling could taste sweet too. Say, when you like a guy, and the guy is going after you. Don't you feel happy deep in your heart? Then, you might feel, your heart is so like flourish, and it is so call "sweet". You feel sweet!
Some peoples also use taste to describe people's look! For example, if the girl looks hot, you might wanna describe her as little hot and spicy girl. If she always has a long face, you will say, come on bitter squash face. Then, if the girl looks so cute, you might say, she looks sweet. If the guy looks horny, in Cantonese, you will say the guy looks "wet and salty".

Hi Min hui,
Sharing my meaing of taste as 'preference' or 'style'. For example, chinese gals are not Aussie guys's taste but could be Americans and British :)
